Lymantria or Lizard
Scientific name: Lymantria dispar
Affected plant: Principally Quercus ilex and Quercus suber, although it may also affect species from the genres Acer, Populus, Pinus, Ulmus, Fagus, Arbutus, Prunus and Castanea.
It is a defoliating Lepidoptera which, in its caterpillar stage, feeds on the leaves and sprouts of the trees (May-June) producing high defoliation that may provoke an important decrease in growth. If the attack is strong and it coincides with negative circumstances (dryness, weakness, etc.) it may end up by killing the affected specimens.
