Scientific name: Paysandisia archon
Affected plant: Principally Trachycarpus fortunei and Chamareops humilis, although it may also affect species of the genres Brahea, Butia, Livistona, Phoenix, Sabal, Syagrus, Trithrinax and Washingtonia

Lepidopteron insect of the Castniidae family, originally from the border area between Argentina and Uruguay. It entered Europe as a consequence of the import of palm trees from South America and, currently, it can be found in several zones of the Mediterranean coasts
(France, Italy, Catalonia, (Valencia...)
Adults are moths that fly during the day, the males have a wing span of about 8 cm and the females of about 9-10 cm, with a perceptible sexual dimorphism.
Eggs are fusiform, similar to a tiny grain of rice, of rosy colour when they are laid and white when the caterpillar hatches.
Caterpillars are rosy in colour with long silks when born, however, after the 1st month, its colour turns whiter and the silks become very short.
The chrysalis is reddish and it is created inside a cocoon weaved by the caterpillar itself.
