Cochineal, Cocides, Lice, White lice and Cotton Cochineals
Scientific name: Icerya, Planococcus, Carulaspis, Saissetia, Leucaspis
Affected plant: It may affect almost any ornamental and fruit plant
Together with the greenflies, they are the most common pest in gardens. They feed by pricking their sucking beak into the leaves and fruit and sucking their sap. They may bear more than a generation per year.
The damages they cause are very similar to those of the greenfly, as the molasses that they excrete (except the species known as Diaspines), provokes the presence of the Negrilla fungus(Fumagina) or discoloured, yellow or deformed leaves.
